HumanitZ Crafting Guide

Crafting is the progression engine of HumanitZ. You start with nothing, scavenge basic materials, and gradually build the infrastructure to produce everything you need. The game's five-tier crafting system takes you from hammering together wooden barricades to operating automated ammunition factories. This guide covers the essential recipes, crafting station progression, and what to prioritize at every stage of survival.

The Crafting System

HumanitZ uses a recipe-based crafting system tied to crafting stations. Each station unlocks a set of recipes. You must build the station at your base using materials and power (for advanced stations). Recipes consume materials from your inventory or nearby storage containers. Crafting takes real in-game time: a batch of ammunition takes 2 hours, a reinforced door takes 8 hours, and a vehicle engine rebuild takes 24 hours.

Material gathering follows a rarity ladder. Tier 1 materials (wood, cloth, scrap metal) are everywhere. Tier 2 materials (metal sheets, car parts, glass) require tool-accessible locations like hardware stores. Tier 3 materials (electronics, wiring, gasoline) are found in industrial zones with moderate zombie presence. Tier 4 and 5 materials (rare metals, military components, advanced electronics) require dangerous military base raids and endgame zone exploration.

Your character's Crafting skill reduces crafting time and material costs. Each point in Crafting reduces material consumption by 3 percent. At level 10 Crafting, you use 30 percent fewer materials and craft 20 percent faster. This skill is the most impactful long-term investment in the game. Start leveling Crafting early by mass-producing bandages and basic barricade components.

Crafting Progression — All Five Tiers

Each tier unlocks new stations, recipes, and capabilities. Do not skip tiers: you need each station's output to gather materials for the next one.

TierKey UnlockMaterialsWhat It Enables
Tier 1 — ScavengerWorkbench, Basic Tools, CampfireWood planks, nails, scrap metal, cloth, stones. All found in residential areas without combat.Melee weapon repair, basic barricades, cooking raw food, purifying water, crafting bandages. The survival baseline. You cannot advance without the Workbench.
Tier 2 — SurvivorGunsmithing Station, Chemistry Table, Rain Catcher, Farming PlotsMetal sheets, bolts, car parts, plastic, glass bottles, fertilizer. Found in hardware stores and auto shops.Firearm repair and ammunition crafting, advanced medical supplies (antibiotics, painkillers), sustainable water and food production. This is where self-sufficiency begins.
Tier 3 — EngineerVehicle Workshop, Generator, Electric Fence, Advanced WorkbenchElectronics, wiring, car batteries, gasoline, copper pipes, welding torches. Found in industrial zones and auto repair shops.Vehicle repair and modification, electricity-powered defenses, automated crafting stations, advanced weapons and armor. Transforms your base from a shelter into a fortress.
Tier 4 — IndustrialistAutomated Factory Station, Solar Array, Wind Turbine, Concrete MixerConcrete, rebar, solar cells, rare metals, computer chips, advanced electronics. Found in military bases and tech facilities.Mass production of ammunition and supplies, concrete walls and structures, renewable power generation, advanced automated defenses. Endgame base construction.
Tier 5 — Post-Apocalypse PioneerAdvanced Chemistry Lab, Hydroponics Bay, Armory Station, Communications ArrayRare earth metals, advanced circuits, uranium (for reactor), satellite parts, military-grade components. Found in endgame military and research facilities.Antibiotic mass production, indoor year-round farming, military-grade weapons and armor, long-range communications. You are no longer surviving, you are rebuilding civilization.

Essential Recipes — What to Craft and When

These ten recipes form the core of your crafting pipeline. Master them and you will always have what you need.

ItemCategoryMaterialsWhen to CraftPriority
BandageMedical2 cloth strips, 1 alcohol (or clean water in an emergency)Craft 5 before leaving base for any supply run. Always carry at least 3 bandages in your hotbar.Very High. Bleeding kills faster than zombies. You can bleed out in 60 seconds without a bandage.
AntibioticsMedical2 herbal remedies, 1 alcohol, 1 clean water. Requires Chemistry Table (Tier 2).Craft after any zombie bite that causes infection. Infection progresses through 3 stages; antibiotics cure at stages 1 and 2.Very High. Stage 3 infection is fatal. Do not wait for symptoms to appear before crafting antibiotics.
Purified WaterSurvival1 dirty water (from any source), 1 purification tablet or boil over a campfire.Continuously. Your water need is constant. Set up a Rain Catcher to automate collection, then boil or purify the collected water.Very High. Dehydration causes escalating debuffs. At zero water, you die in two game-hours.
Cooked MeatFood1 raw meat (from hunting animals), 1 campfire or stove, optional seasoning for morale bonus. After every hunting trip. Cooked meat provides 3x more calories than canned food and does not spoil for 24 hours.High. Hunting is the most sustainable food source once established. Cook immediately; raw meat spoils in 6 hours.
Wooden BarricadeBase Defense4 planks, 6 nails, 2 hinges. Requires Workbench (Tier 1).Immediately after establishing a base. Barricade every ground-floor window and door before nightfall on Day 1.Very High. Unbarricaded windows are open invitations. Zombies path directly toward openings in your base.
9mm Ammunition (50 rounds)Ammunition1 gunpowder, 2 brass casings, 1 lead. Requires Gunsmithing Station (Tier 2).When your ammunition stock drops below 100 rounds. Do not wait until you are completely out.High. Ammunition production is slow. Each batch of 50 rounds takes 2 in-game hours to craft. Maintain a production pipeline.
Vehicle Repair KitVehicle2 scrap metal, 1 duct tape, 1 wrench, 1 engine oil. Requires Vehicle Workshop (Tier 3).Carry 2 repair kits in every vehicle. Repair your vehicle whenever durability drops below 50 percent.High. Breaking down in the wilderness with no repair kit means abandoning the vehicle and all its cargo.
Molotov CocktailThrowable1 glass bottle, 1 cloth strip, 1 alcohol or gasoline. Requires Campfire or Chemistry Table.Stockpile 10 before every horde night. Craft 3-5 for general exploration to handle Brute encounters.High. Molotovs are the most cost-effective area denial tool. A single Molotov can clear a choke point of basic zombies.
Crossbow Bolt (5 bolts)Ammunition1 wood plank, 1 scrap metal (for tips). Requires Workbench (Tier 1).Always. Bolts are retrievable but break on use about 30 percent of the time. Maintain a stock of at least 30 bolts.High. The Crossbow is your silent workhorse. Running out of bolts forces you to use noisy firearms.
GeneratorPower3 car parts, 1 engine block, 2 wiring, 1 fuel tank. Requires Vehicle Workshop (Tier 3).After establishing a base with defensive walls. Power enables electric fences, refrigerators for food storage, and automated defenses.Medium-High. Power is a luxury until Tier 3, then becomes essential for defending against Week 4+ horde nights.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most important crafting station to build first?

The Workbench is the most important first crafting station. It unlocks melee weapon repair, basic barricades, and tool crafting. Without it, your weapons break permanently and your base remains undefended. After the Workbench, prioritize the Rain Catcher for sustainable water, then the Chemistry Table for antibiotics. The Gunsmithing Station can wait until you have ammunition components stockpiled.

Can I craft everything or do I need to find some items?

Most items can be crafted, but some rare components must be found. Advanced electronics, military-grade weapon parts, satellite components, and uranium are loot-only items that gate Tier 4 and 5 crafting. You can craft basic and intermediate versions of most items, but the best gear requires exploration of high-risk military and research zones.

How do I get the materials for ammunition crafting?

Gunpowder is found in gun stores, military checkpoints, and police stations. Brass casings drop from military zombies and can be salvaged from spent ammunition. Lead is mined from lead deposits at quarries (northeast corner of the map) or salvaged from car batteries. Gunpowder is the bottleneck: farm military checkpoints and gun stores aggressively. One successful military base raid can yield enough gunpowder for 200 rounds.
