Scavenging Routes Guide
Best loot locations, optimal routes, danger assessments, and gear recommendations for every scavenging run in HumanitZ.
Scavenging is the core gameplay loop of HumanitZ. Every trip outside your base is a calculated risk — you trade safety for resources. The difference between a successful run and a death sentence often comes down to knowing where to go, what route to take, and what gear to bring. This guide covers every major scavenging location on the map, organized by loot type and danger level, along with optimized routes that minimize zeal encounters and maximize haul efficiency.
The map of HumanitZ is divided into distinct zones, each with its own loot tables, zeal density, and environmental hazards. Urban areas offer the richest loot but also the highest concentration of zeeks. Rural areas are safer but reward you with fewer resources per trip. The key to efficient scavenging is matching your current gear level and survival needs to the right location at the right time.
Below you will find a comprehensive breakdown of every major scavenging site, complete with recommended approach routes, danger assessments, and the specific loadout you should bring. Use this guide to plan your runs, avoid unnecessary deaths, and build the resource stockpile you need to survive long-term in HumanitZ.

Early Game Scavenging Priorities (Days 1-10)
Your first 10 days in HumanitZ define the rest of your run. The early game is about establishing a foothold — you need a weapon, food, basic medical supplies, and a backpack to increase your carry capacity. Do not push into high-danger zones. Stick to low and medium-danger locations until you have a suppressed weapon and at least 4 bandages in your inventory.
| Priority | Target Item | Best Locations | Reason | Pro Tip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Basic Weapons & Melee | Sunset Gas Station, Pine Creek Campsite, Oakwood Suburbs | Your first hours need a reliable melee weapon and at least one firearm with a magazine of ammo. The gas station has a near-guaranteed baseball bat spawn. | Do not engage more than 2 zeeks at once. Sneak past everything you can. |
| 2 | Food & Water Supply | Green Valley Mall (food court), Waterfront Warehouse (canned) | Hunger and thirst kill more new players than zeeks. Establish a 3-day food and water buffer before venturing anywhere dangerous. | Canned food never spoils. Prioritize canned over fresh. Fill water bottles at any river or lake. |
| 3 | Basic Medical Supplies | St. Mary's Hospital (pharmacy level only), Oakwood Suburbs (bathroom cabinets) | Bandages are your most important consumable. Infection from untreated wounds is a death sentence in the early game. Get at least 10 bandages stored at base. | Combine Cloth Scrap x2 + Alcohol for makeshift bandages if you cannot find medical ones. |
| 4 | Backpack Upgrade | Green Valley Mall (sporting goods), Military Checkpoint Alpha | Inventory space is your real bottleneck. A medium backpack doubles your carry capacity and pays for itself on the first trip. | Drop non-essential items at a temporary stash point and return with a vehicle once you have a backpack. |
Mid Game Scavenging Priorities (Days 10-25)
By day 10 you should have a stable food supply, a basic base, and at least one firearm. The mid-game expands your operating range to high-danger zones. Your goals shift from survival to optimization: silenced weapons, vehicles, base fortification materials, and specialized tools. You can now take on locations with higher risk in exchange for dramatically better rewards.
| Priority | Target Item | Best Locations | Reason | Pro Tip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Suppressed Firearms & Ammo | Military Checkpoint Alpha, Ranger Station | Silence becomes essential as zeal density increases. A suppressed weapon lets you clear areas without triggering every zeal in a 200m radius. | Suppressors degrade with use. Carry a backup melee weapon for when it breaks mid-fight. |
| 2 | Vehicle & Fuel Infrastructure | Riverside Docks (vehicle parts), Sunset Gas Station (fuel) | A working vehicle transforms the game. You can carry 10x more loot per trip and cover the map in minutes instead of hours. Establish a fuel depot at your base. | Park 100-150m from scavenging targets. Vehicle noise draws zeeks from a wide area. |
| 3 | Base Building Materials | Harbor Freight Depot, Waterfront Warehouse | Mid-game is when your base transitions from a shack to a fortress. You need nails, planks, metal sheets, and concrete. The freight depot has everything in bulk. | Build walls before expanding. Defensive structures protect your stored loot better than any weapon. |
| 4 | Specialized Tools | Riverside Docks, Harbor Freight Depot | Lockpicks, crowbars, and sledgehammers unlock the best loot rooms. Many end-game areas require specific tools to access. Stockpile them. | Crowbars have a chance to break on use. Carry 3 for long scavenging runs. |
Late Game Scavenging Priorities (Day 25+)
Beyond day 25, the world becomes increasingly hostile. Armored zeeks appear, horde events trigger more frequently, and resource nodes start depleting. Late-game scavenging is about targeting the highest-value locations with military-grade gear. Every trip must be precisely planned because mistakes at this stage can wipe out days of progress.
| Priority | Target Item | Best Locations | Reason | Pro Tip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Military-Grade Armor & Weapons | Military Checkpoint Alpha, Hidden Bunker (map coordinate G7) | End-game zeeks include armored variants that shrug off civilian weapons. You need military armor and AP ammo to survive beyond day 30. | The hidden bunker at G7 requires a military keycard found on officer zeeks at Checkpoint Alpha. |
| 2 | Rare Components & Blueprints | St. Mary's Hospital (basement archive), Ranger Station (radio tower) | End-game crafting requires rare components: circuit boards, batteries, electronics. Blueprints unlock advanced traps and turrets for base defense. | Power the Ranger Station radio tower with a generator for a one-time map-wide loot ping. |
| 3 | Antidotes & Advanced Medicine | St. Mary's Hospital (ICU, pharmacy basement) | Poison and infection damage scales dramatically in late game. Antidotes and antibiotics are non-negotiable for any run into high-level zones. | Antidotes have a 5-minute cooldown. Do not waste them on minor poison — save for boss zeek encounters. |
Scavenging Safety Protocol
Rule 1: Always Scout First
Never run directly into a location. Spend 30 seconds observing from cover. Count zeeks. Identify exits. Look for wandering patrols. The 30 seconds you spend scouting can save you a 30-minute corpse run.
Rule 2: Have an Exit Plan
Before you fire a single shot or open a single container, know how you are getting out. Identify at least two exit routes. If you are using a vehicle, park it pointing toward your escape direction with the engine off but ready.
Rule 3: Loot in Priority Order
Highest-value containers first. If you fill your inventory before clearing the location, you leave with the best loot. Medicine > Ammo > Food > Crafting Materials > Everything Else. Do not get greedy — a full backpack is better than a dead survivor.
Rule 4: Daylight Is Your Ally
Zeeks move 30 percent slower and have reduced detection range during daylight hours. Plan every major scavenging run to begin at dawn and conclude by mid-afternoon. Night scavenging should be limited to low-danger locations within 200m of your base.
Rule 5: Never Scavenge Alone in Late Game
In co-op, always pair up for high-danger runs. One player loots while the other overwatches. In solo play, use noise distractions (thrown bottles, alarm clocks, firecrackers) to pull zeeks away from your intended loot path before you enter.
Route Efficiency Tips
Chain Your Runs
Plan multi-stop routes that form a loop back to your base. Example route: Base → Pine Creek Campsite → Ranger Station → Sunset Gas Station → Base. Each stop restocks consumables you used at the previous stop, minimizing deadhead travel.
Use Waterways
Boats and swimming routes bypass 90 percent of land-based zeal patrols. The river network connects the Docks, Waterfront Warehouse, and Harbor Freight Depot. A boat route between these three locations is the safest high-value run in the game.
Establish Forward Stashes
Place a storage container at a central location between your base and frequent scavenging targets. Drop non-essential loot there during runs and collect it with a vehicle later. The gas station makes an ideal forward stash — central to multiple high-value zones.
Time Your Runs with World Events
Horde events pull zeeks toward a specific location, temporarily emptying surrounding areas. If you see a horde notification for a zone adjacent to your target, that is your window — most patrols will be drawn away from your loot path.
Gear Progression by Scavenging Tier
Your scavenging loadout should evolve as you access better loot and face tougher threats. Here is the recommended gear progression:
Tier 1 — Low Danger (Days 1-5)
Weapon: Baseball Bat or Pipe Wrench. Medical: 2x Makeshift Bandage. Utility: Flashlight. Storage: Small Backpack. Food: 1x Canned Food, 1x Water Bottle.
Tier 2 — Medium Danger (Days 5-15)
Weapon: Crossbow + Pistol (sidearm). Medical: 3x Bandage, 1x Painkiller. Utility: Lockpick, Crowbar. Storage: Medium Backpack. Food: 2x Canned Food, 2x Water.
Tier 3 — High Danger (Days 15-30)
Weapon: Suppressed Rifle + Shotgun (breaching). Medical: 5x Bandage, 2x Antidote, 1x Antibiotic. Utility: Sledgehammer, Grenade. Storage: Large Backpack. Armor: Tactical Vest.
Tier 4 — Very High Danger (Day 30+)
Weapon: Suppressed Assault Rifle + Grenade Launcher. Medical: 8x Bandage, 3x Antidote, 2x Antibiotic. Utility: Military Keycard, C4 Charge. Storage: Military Backpack. Armor: Full Combat Armor Set.
