HumanitZ Zombie Types Guide

Not all zombies in HumanitZ are created equal. A Walker slowly shambling toward you is a nuisance. A Spitter perched on a rooftop is a run-ending threat. A Screamer that spots you and shrieks can summon enough zombies to wipe your entire group. This guide identifies every zombie variant, explains their abilities, reveals their weaknesses, and gives you the combat tactics to handle each one efficiently. Know your enemy, and you will survive much longer.

Zombie Variants — Health, Speed, Damage, and Abilities

HumanitZ has 6 distinct zombie variants plus a random Special Infected that spawns with one random special ability. Each variant requires a different combat approach. Engaging a Tank the same way you engage a Walker will get you killed. Memorize this table and identify the threat before engaging.

Spitter Mechanics — Acid Damage and How to Dodge

Spitters are the most dangerous zombie type for ranged players. They perch on rooftops, second-floor balconies, and other elevated positions. From there they spit acid projectiles with a range of roughly 10 meters. The acid deals 25 damage on impact plus 40 damage over 10 seconds (Damage Over Time). The DOT effect stacks — three acid hits means 120 DOT damage, which kills most players.

The acid projectile has a visible arc. When you see a Spitter hunching forward and making a retching sound, it is about to spit. You have roughly 1 second to take cover. Get behind a wall, a car, or any solid object. The acid projectile cannot go through solid objects. After it spits, you have a 3-second cooldown window to take the shot. Aim for the head — one rifle bullet kills a Spitter.

Spitters have 120 HP, same as a Screamer. They always spawn in groups of 1 to 3. If you see one, there are almost certainly others nearby. Scan all elevated positions before moving through an area. A Spitter you do not see is a Spitter that will kill you while you are fighting other zombies.

Screamer Mechanics — Horde Summoning and Priority Target

Screamers are the highest-priority target in any zombie encounter. When a Screamer detects you, it lets out a piercing shriek that summons every zombie within a 50-meter radius. The horde it summons is 10 to 15 zombies strong and includes all variants. If you are alone, a Screamer summoning a horde is a run-ending event.

The correct way to deal with a Screamer is stealth. Crouch-walk behind it and perform a melee takedown with a crowbar. One hit to the back of the head kills silently. Never shoot a Screamer — the gunshot noise alone summons as many zombies as the scream does. If you cannot stealth-kill it (it spotted you), sprint toward it and melee-kill it before it finishes the scream animation. The scream has a 2-second wind-up. If you kill it during wind-up, it does not summon the horde.

Screamers have a distinctive appearance: they wear tattered clothing in bright colors (often red or yellow) and have their mouths permanently open. Spot them from a distance and plan your approach. If you see a Screamer, assume it has not detected you yet — keep crouching and approach from behind. Rushing a Screamer in open combat is suicide unless you have a vehicle to run it over.

Tank Mechanics — Heavy Damage and Kiting Strategy

Tanks (also called Brutes) are the bullet sponges of HumanitZ. They have 400 HP — 5 times more than a Walker. They deal 50 damage per melee hit and knock you backward, interrupting your attack. They destroy wooden barricades in 3 hits and stone barricades in 6. In a base defense scenario, a Tank is the most dangerous attacker.

The counter to a Tank is kiting. Tanks move at 1.0 m/s — slower than a walking player. Backpedal while shooting it in the head with a pistol or rifle. It takes 5 to 7 headshots to kill a Tank depending on your weapon damage. Never let a Tank get within melee range. If it hits you once, you lose stamina from the knockback, and it can hit you again before you recover.

Molotov Cocktails are the most efficient Tank-killing tool. The fire damage ticks for 10 seconds and deals damage every second. One Molotov deals 200 total damage — half a Tank's health. Two Molotovs kills a Tank. However, using a Molotov draws the Tank's attention to you — it will start chasing you instead of wandering. Only use Molotovs when you have a clear escape path.

Best Weapons Against Each Zombie Type

Ammunition is scarce in HumanitZ. You cannot afford to waste bullets on zombies that could be killed with a melee weapon. Use this table to choose the right weapon for each threat. The goal is to minimize ammo consumption while maximizing survival.

Day vs Night — How Zombie Behavior Changes

Zombies in HumanitZ are not the same threat at 2:00 PM and 2:00 AM. Night zombies have 3x the spawn rate, 2x the detection range, and deal 50 percent more damage. The difference is large enough that many players simply do not play at night. Understanding the exact differences helps you decide when to push and when to hole up.

Dusk (18:00 - 20:00)1.5x baseline25 meters (sight + slight hearing)Zombies become slightly more aggressive. Groups start forming.Head home. Do not start new looting runs after 17:00.
Night (20:00 - 5:00)3x baseline40 meters (sight + hearing + smell)Flashlight attracts zombies from 2x normal range. Zombies deal 50 percent more damage.Only go out at night if you have a vehicle and a passenger with a gun.

Stealth Mechanics — Crouching, Noise, and Detection Radius

Stealth is the most ammo-efficient playstyle in HumanitZ. If you never alert a zombie, you never have to kill it. The stealth system is based on three detection channels: sight, sound, and smell. Crouch-walking eliminates sound and reduces your visual profile to 30 percent of standing height. Zombies can see crouching players but they detect them at roughly half the normal range.

Sound is the most common stealth breaker. Sprinting creates noise that travels 30 meters. Walking creates minimal noise that travels 10 meters. Crouch-walking is effectively silent. However, certain surfaces (metal floors, glass) make noise even when crouch-walking. Avoid metal surfaces when infiltrating a building silently. Also, your equipment weight affects noise — heavy gear clanks. Drop heavy items before a stealth approach or store them in your vehicle.

Smell detection is triggered by blood. If you are bleeding (from any source — zombie scratch, fall damage, or previous fight), zombies can smell you from 15 meters even if they cannot see or hear you. Always bandage bleeding immediately, even in the middle of a fight. A bleeding player trying to stealth-extract will fail because the smell trail gives them away. The bandage removes the smell source instantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I tell a Screamer from a Walker at a distance?

Screamers have a distinctive upright posture and open mouth, while Walkers are hunched over. At a distance, look for the bright-colored clothing — Screamers almost always wear something red, yellow, or orange. Walkers wear drab colors (gray, blue, green). If you are unsure, assume it is a Screamer and approach with stealth. The cost of misidentifying a Screamer is a horde summon. The cost of misidentifying a Walker is one crowbar hit.

What is the best strategy for fighting multiple zombie types at once?

Priority order: Screamer first (stealth kill), Spitter second (ranged headshot), Tank third (kite and shoot), Runners fourth (shoot before they close), Walkers last (melee or ignore). If you cannot stealth-kill the Screamer, your priority shifts to sprinting away and finding a defensible position (a doorway or a narrow corridor). Never fight a mixed group in open ground. Funnel them through a choke point where you can headshot them one at a time.

Do headshots always kill in one hit?

Headshots deal 2x damage but do not guarantee a one-hit kill except against Walkers with a crowbar. Against Runners, a pistol headshot deals roughly 60 damage — enough to kill in 2 shots. Against Tanks, a rifle headshot deals 80 damage — you need 5 headshots. The "one headshot = dead" rule only applies to melee weapons against low-health variants. For firearms, always fire 2 shots at minimum to ensure the kill. The second shot is wasted if it was already dead, but the ammo cost is worth the certainty.
