HumanitZ Weapons Tier List

In HumanitZ, choosing the right weapon is the difference between clearing a room silently and attracting every zombie within 300 meters. This tier list ranks every weapon in the game — melee and ranged — from S-tier (must-use) to D-tier (avoid at all costs). Rankings are based on damage output, ammo efficiency, noise generation, durability, availability, and overall combat effectiveness in the current meta.

Based on HumanitZ patch 1.03B. All damage values are approximate and scale with skill level. Headshots deal 3x damage on basic zeeks.

Tier Definitions

S-Tier — God Weapons

These weapons define their category. They provide overwhelming advantages in damage, efficiency, or stealth that make them worth building your entire loadout around. Always take these.

A-Tier — Excellent Picks

Strong, reliable, and effective in nearly all situations. These weapons will carry you through the game with confidence. Take these over B-tier without hesitation.

B-Tier — Solid Options

Good weapons that perform well in their niche. They get the job done but are outclassed by higher-tier alternatives. Use these when you haven't found S/A-tier yet.

C/D-Tier — Avoid or Replace ASAP

C-tier weapons are minimally viable. D-tier weapons are actively harmful to use — they waste resources and make noise without delivering results. Replace immediately.

Melee Weapons Tier List

Melee combat is your primary engagement method for 80% of encounters in HumanitZ. Silent, reliable, and resource-free, melee weapons are essential for conserving ammunition and avoiding horde triggers. The table below ranks every melee weapon from S to D tier with comprehensive stats.

Melee Weapon Breakdown

S-Tier Analysis: Katana & Fire Axe

The Katana is the undisputed king of melee combat. With 85-110 damage per swing, very fast attack speed, and a 30% dismember chance, it turns the average encounter into a one-sided slaughter. The extended reach means you can hit zeeks before they enter their attack range. The downside is rarity — you'll find maybe one Katana every 10-15 hours of gameplay, primarily in military-grade loot areas. When you find one, treat it like treasure. The Fire Axe is the practical S-tier choice: 65-90 damage, breaks doors and barricades in two swings, and is significantly more common than the Katana. Its dual-functionality as both weapon and tool makes it the most versatile melee option. Prioritize finding a Fire Axe within your first 5 hours of gameplay — it will carry you through mid-game.

A-Tier Analysis: The Workhorses

The Crowbar earns its A-tier through sheer utility. It opens locked containers silently (saving lockpicks), has the second-highest durability at 300 swings, and does respectable damage. It's the most reliable weapon for long scavenging runs where you need one tool for fighting and looting. The Machete offers the best crowd-clear capacity with fast attack speed and bleed chance — ideal for clearing groups of shamblers efficiently. The Spartan Spear is the safest melee weapon in the game; its extended reach allows you to kill through fences, windows, and other barriers where enemies cannot reach you. It's also the most stamina-efficient melee weapon for kiting strategies. The Sledgehammer is the dedicated anti-Brute melee weapon — charged attacks stagger Brutes, creating opening windows for follow-up strikes.

B-Tier Analysis: Solid Starters

The Baseball Bat and its upgraded Nailed Bat variant are the bridge between early and mid-game. You'll find Baseball Bats everywhere — sports stores, schools, garages — and they offer reliable damage with excellent knockback. The immediate upgrade path to the Nailed Bat (requires Nails + Duct Tape) doubles effective damage output. The standard Axe is a solid early-mid weapon that also chops wood, making it efficient for players who want one inventory slot for both combat and resource gathering. The Metal Pipe is the most common weapon you'll find in the first 30 minutes; its fast speed compensates for low damage, making it a better choice than most D-tier weapons. Don't underestimate the Metal Pipe in the early game — it's available immediately and reliable.

C & D-Tier: Replace Immediately

The Kitchen Knife may be fast, but 15-25 damage per swing means you need 4-6 hits to kill a basic zeek — dangerous when facing more than one. The Hatchet breaks after only 80 swings, making it unreliable for extended combat. D-tier weapons like the Cricket Bat, Golf Club, and Wood Weapon should be treated as absolutely last-resort items. These weapons will get you killed if you rely on them past the first 10 minutes. If all you have is a D-tier weapon, prioritize finding literally anything else — even a Metal Pipe is a massive upgrade. Never waste repair materials on D-tier weapons. Their only value is as temporary stopgaps until you find your first real weapon.

Ranged Weapons Tier List

Firearms are tools of escalation. Every shot attracts attention, and the detection radius varies dramatically between weapons — from 5 meters with a Crossbow to 350 meters with an RPG. Ammo scarcity means you can't spray and pray like other zombie games. Each bullet represents a scavenging run, and wasting them on basic shamblers is the most common mistake new players make. Use ranged weapons only for special enemies, emergency situations, and horde night defense.

Ranged Weapons Analysis & Combat Strategy

Silent Weapons: Your Primary Ranged Tool

The Crossbow is the most important ranged weapon in HumanitZ, period. Its near-zero noise radius (5 meters), retrievable bolts, and one-shot headshot capability on basic zeeks make it the only ranged weapon you can use freely without triggering horde escalation. Bolts are craftable from wood and scrap metal, meaning the Crossbow is effectively infinite-ammo once you establish a basic crafting setup. The Compound Bow is the premium silent option — higher damage per shot and compatibility with fire arrows for area denial — but requires more skill points in Archery to maximize draw speed. Always carry a silent ranged weapon. Always. The Crossbow should be in your loadout 100% of the time unless you're doing a challenge run. The difference between a Crossbow and any firearm is the difference between solving one problem and creating ten more.

Ammo Economy: Why the Weapon Matters Less Than the Bullet

No amount of tactical prowess can overcome empty magazines. The tier list above reflects real-world ammo availability: 9mm and .22 LR are everywhere but do the least damage; .308 and 7.62mm are scarce but pack massive punch. The .50 Cal weapons (Barrett, Gold Desert Eagle) are in a class by themselves — the ammo is so rare you'll build entire storage rooms just to hoard it for horde night. A fully loaded Barrett represents roughly 15 hours of .50 cal scavenging. Use .50 cal rounds only on Horde Alphas and Brutes during horde nights. Never use .50 cal on shamblers or runners — that single round represents too much game time to waste. For comparison: a full Barrett magazine (5 rounds) costs more in scavenging time than building a full defensive perimeter around your base. Choose your shots accordingly.

Shotgun vs Rifle vs SMG: When to Use Each

Shotguns are the "oh no" button. When a Runner closes distance faster than expected, or when three zeeks pour through a breached barricade, the shotgun's spread and stopping power are unmatched. But every shell fired announces your position to every enemy within 200+ meters. Use shotguns only in emergencies or during active horde defense where noise no longer matters. Rifles are your precision tools — ideal for eliminating Screamers and Spitters at range before they can alert others or apply debuffs. An encounter that begins with a rifle headshot on a Screamer is an encounter you control. SMGs like the S VAL and UMP45 fill the gap between silent weapons and full battle rifles. The S VAL is particularly valuable because it's pre-suppressed, letting you maintain stealth while delivering superior firepower — your most important mid-game weapon upgrade after the Crossbow.

Optimal Anti-Horde Loadout

For horde night defense, your loadout should look like this: Primary — Barrett Sniper or AWM for Horde Alpha elimination (alpha dies first, always). Secondary — AA-12 or Tactical Shotgun for crowd clearing when zeeks breach the perimeter. Sidearm — Gold Desert Eagle for emergency last-stand situations. Silent backup — Crossbow for eliminating Screamers among the horde before they can call reinforcements. Area denial — Flamethrower at choke points and Molotovs pre-placed at breach zones. The key principle is layered defense: start with silent precision (Crossbow for Screamers), escalate to heavy firepower (Barrett for Alpha), transition to crowd control (Shotgun for clusters), and maintain area denial (Flamethrower for breached sections). Your ammo cache should be positioned near your firing position with quick-access containers — fumbling through inventory during horde night is a death sentence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should I prioritize melee or ranged weapons early game?

Melee, 100%. In the first 10 hours of gameplay, your priority should be finding a Fire Axe or Crowbar and mastering melee combat mechanics — push, dodge, swing timing, stamina management. Firearms in the early game are traps. The noise they generate attracts more zeeks than they kill, and early-game ammo stockpiles are too thin to sustain any gun-based strategy. The Crossbow is the exception and should be your first ranged weapon priority. Once you have 50+ rounds of a specific caliber stockpiled, you can consider incorporating that firearm into your rotation — but even then, reserve it for special enemies and emergencies. The fastest wipe scenario in HumanitZ is a new player finding a pistol and firing it inside a city block.

Q: What's better — the MK18 or the M4A1?

The MK18 is strictly superior. It comes pre-suppressed, meaning it generates only a 150m detection radius instead of the M4A1's 170m — and more importantly, it doesn't require you to find a suppressor attachment first. The damage difference is modest (55-72 vs 48-65 per shot), but the MK18's tighter grouping and pre-equipped optics make it more accurate at medium range. The only reason to use an M4A1 is if the MK18 hasn't dropped yet — which is common, since the MK18 is Very Rare and the M4A1 is slightly more common. If you find a suppressor for the M4A1, it closes the gap considerably. Both are excellent weapons that will serve you well through endgame content.

Q: Are .22 caliber weapons ever worth using?

Almost never. The Rugar Rifle and Rugar Pistol deal 3-4x less damage than equivalent weapons in other calibers. A Barrett Sniper does up to 15x more damage per shot than a .22 Rugar Rifle. The only scenario where .22 weapons have value is hunting rabbits and other small wildlife for food — they are hunting tools, not combat weapons. Using a .22 against zeeks is actively harmful because it creates noise (90m detection radius) without delivering meaningful damage. You're better off using melee or running away. The ammo is common enough that you might be tempted to use it — resist that temptation. Sell or store the .22 ammo, scrap the weapons for parts, and move on.
